Mayor of Maroondah, Councillor Peter Gurr welcomed the announcement of $2.9 million in funding from the Federal Government to build a new multi-purpose sports pavilion at the Ringwood Soccer Reserve.
The announcement was made by Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government on Monday 4 May, and is part of the Federal Government’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program – Strategic Projects.
“Council has been working for some time on plans to redevelop the Ringwood Soccer Stadium, part of the Jubilee Park sports complex in Ringwood,” said Cr Gurr.
“The funding submission was forwarded to the Federal Government in March of this year, and we are very pleased to now be able to provide this wonderful new facility for the Maroondah community,” said Cr Gurr.
“The
project will see the demolition of the existing stadium and
grandstand and the construction of a new multi-purpose
shared sports pavilion with male and female change
facilities, associated car parking, grandstand and
lighting,” said Cr Gurr.
“The new pavilion will enable various male and female sports codes, including a boxing gymnasium, to utilise the facility, which will complement the new playing field – an all weather synthetic surface, to be completed concurrently with the building works,” said Cr Gurr.
Funding of $650,000 for the new all weather synthetic surface will be provided by Council and Sport & Recreation Victoria.
“This
is great news for the Ringwood City Soccer Club, and for the
Maroondah community as a whole,” said Cr Gurr.
