Last Game, September 5

Kangaroos v Richmond at Richmond

Well, what a way to finish a fantastic season!

I was so proud of the boys on Saturday.  With Richmond being the only team to beat us 3-2 earlier in the year it was more than pleasing to see such a pay back - 5-0

I have not seen them so fired up (along with me and a few others!) to win in all the time at Ringwood.  Every player put in their best on the day with some exceptional goals scored.

It was a very tough game and all credit to Richmond who played some very good soccer.  The difference was they didn't expect such a hard game.

Well done Boys!

Thank-you to everyone who helped throughout the season.  Those who tidied up at all the home games.  Dads who refereed.  Mums or Dads for washing the shirts and supplying the oranges.  For transporting the boys to and from training and the games.  Mel Thompson & Chelsey for videoing the games. Ott for being a great help with coaching.

Finally thanks for the great gifts I received on Saturday it was very much appreciated.

See you all at this Saturday's presentation day.

The times are not yet available so once I know I will let you know. (probably around 9-10 am).  Being a schedule we all need to be there on time so we don't hold up any other teams.

Cheers

David

Round 8, June 20

Joeys v Boroondara at Boroondara

The under 10 Joeys played an excellent game winning 12-1.

Everyone covered their positions, attacked the goal and recovered to protect their own goal.  They played with heaps of energy and enthusiasm.

Team work was outstanding and they played to the levels that we know they can.  A job well done.

Goals were scored by: Pat Corbett 3, Mitchell Bell 2, Ryan Mason-Virtue 2, Ben Trethewey 2, Todd Malt 1, Jaiden Bagley 1 and Boroondara had an own goal.

Men of the match were Jaiden Bagley and Zac Sompel.

Thanks
Tim

Round 7, June 13

Kangaroos v Bulleen 2 at Manson

What a great game we witnessed last week!

All the boys were ready for it and it showed.  We always know that Bulleen have good teams and we have two of them in our league.  Bulleen 2 are a very good team and with our determination and some great skill we overcame them with a hard fought 2-1 victory.

From the start I asked certain players to do a special role for the game and they all did exactly what I wanted.  This shows how far they have come if they can take instructions and carry them out so well.

The game started off at a fast pace and did not let up the whole game. Rory scored early with a well taken RIGHT footed shot into the corner to give us the lead. We conceded a goal not long after and at half time it was 1-1.

A very strong second half saw us having numerous chances saved by their goalie.  Our winning goal came from a great shot by Cameron into the top left hand corner.

The defence was outstanding and was the reason we held off any come back from Bulleen.  A match saving tackle came from nowhere by Hayden to deny a shot on goal.

Our Player of the Match this week was our goalie Ben Argall.  He was very safe on any loose balls and hit away any threats from the corners.  Well done Ben.

This week we have another tough game against Bulleen 1 (Kick off @ 11.30 A.M.) Address -Veneto Social Club, 191 Bulleen Road,  Bulleen  Map Reference 32D9.  Please be there at 11.00 am.

Round 6, May 30

Joeys v Doncaster at Manson

The under 10 Joeys had a close one on Saturday against Doncaster.  At the final whistle we won 1-0.  They battled hard, passed to their team mates and played a strong defensive game.  We had several scoring chances that might have been converted with a touch more second effort.

Pat Corbett got our goal, the third week in a row Pat has managed to get at least one across the line.  Todd Malt was a solid wall in the goal in the second half, blocking everything that even came near.

Darcy Jacobs was on fire on Saturday.  He was everywhere at once, had a couple of shots at goal and made a couple of saves at the other end of the field to stop Doncaster's run at the goal.  Darcy was the Man of the Match.

Round 5, May 23

Kangaroos v Boroondara at Boroondara

Another great effort saw the boys beat Boroondara 9-2 this week.

With Boroondara doing a 45 minute training session before our game we thought we were in for a very tough game.  However they must have tired themselves out as the boys went in hard on every ball and scored some well put together goals.

The scorers this week were more spread out than usual which goes to prove that as a team we can all score goals and defend when not in possession. Rory 3, Airik 1,Nathan 1, Liam 1, Cameron 1, Ali 1 & Hayden with his usual one.  Great to see Liam hit a great left footed goal without hesitation. This shows that it will become second nature if you practice more often.  Cameron hit a great goal into the corner of the net and is trying hard to get his shooting at a higher level.

Our Goalkeeper Ben Argall is improving also with some great saves and terrific throw-outs to start yet another attack.

The commitment the boys are showing is fantastic and with every-ones help are developing into a very strong team.  The Player of the Match this week was Ali Alansari who played more of a defensive roll this week and proved that he can also defend well and create some nice passes down the line to the forwards.  Ali battled hard against much bigger opposition, but this doesn't seem to bother him.  Keep battling Ali.

Joeys v Croydon at Croydon

The under 10 Joeys played Croydon at Ainslie Park and we came away with a well earned victory 5-0.

We seem to be playing like the outstanding team we can become.  Everyone focused on the ball, passed well, and had several well placed corner kicks.

The defence was solid.  Pat Corbett was a goal scoring machine with two goals. Mitchell Bell had at least 5 shots on goal and got one across.  Zac Sompel hit the penalty shot like he plays for Man U.  Croydon had an own goal.

Todd Malt took over the keeper role at half time and had several amazing saves.  He blocked everything that even came close to the goal and didn't let even one get past him.  Todd was the man of the match

Round 4, May 16

Kangaroos v Croydon at Manson

Last week we played Croydon at home and after watching a very spirited Joey's just go down to Bulleen the boys were ready to play.  It was not any easy game by any means yet the boys still managed a 8-0 win.

Right from the start we attacked as much as possible, but Croydon had a very good goalie and made many saves before we eventually put away the first one.  Once again some great moves were being constructed which resulted in many more goals.  The boys are passing far more than last season and the results are showing.

The goals this week were: Rory 3, Airik 2, Ali 2 & Nathan 1. Many other players contributed in various ways.  With Hayden replaced by Mitchell in goal in the second half freed him up to attack as much as possible with some great efforts on goal.  We almost conceded a goal late in the game but Nathan somehow cleared it off the line.  It is still inconclusive on the video footage that we filmed of the game.

Our Player of the Match  this week was Liam Mounsey who has been tackling very fiercely and passing the ball forward to create more attacks. Liam even took on a couple of players going forward only to narrowly miss to the left.  .Keep up the great effort Liam.

See you all at training.

Joeys v Bulleen at Manson

The under 10s Joeys played an outstanding game against Bulleen.

The game could have gone either way and was decided only in the last few minutes. Unfortunately, it went Bulleen's way and they won 2-1.

This was perhaps the best I have seen the Joeys play as a team, they worked together, passed well, and lost by the smallest of margin against a good team.

Pat Corbett scored our goal and Callum Harley was Man of the Match.

Tim

Round 3, May 9

Kangaroos v Ashburton at Ashburton

This week saw us travel to Ashburton which turned out to be a tougher game than in previous seasons but still managing a good 6-3 win.

Although the ground was at the minimum size we quickly got used to not kicking the ball too long as it would run out.  Some great throws from our keeper Ben put us into great positions to shoot at the goals.  Airik once again starred with 3 goals, Nathan on his return from the sunshine state scored 2 and Rory chipped in with one.

The ground condition did not help our passing game at all but we still managed plenty of very intelligent plays to out play Ashburton on many occasions.  Once again we are working hard at trying to play good soccer by passing the ball to each other and crossing the ball into area to try to score.

Keep working hard at training with Ott at our passing and it will pay off in the games.

Our Player of the Match was Nathan Callinan who put in some great hard tackles and won many balls to start off many attacks. Keep tackling hard Nathan.

cheers

David

Round 2, May 2

Kangaroos v Knox City at Manson Reserve

Unfortunately for Knox they came up against a very determined team and never had a look in. 17-1 was the final score, so I'm informed, which was incredible from all the boys.

The scorers were Airik with an incredible 7, Ali 2, Rory 3, Cameron 3, Hayden 1 & Liam 1.

Apart from a goal feast I was very impressed with the way the ball was being passed around rather than just kicking it anywhere.  The confidence that the boys are showing while in control of the ball is very encouraging and with more work at training will develop everyone to becoming better players.

The Player of the Match this week was Cameron Osborne.  Cameron is playing with some very sore feet, but so far this has not stopped him becoming more confident in running & passing the ball with great maturity.  Great work Cameron.

Let's keep up the good work and go to Ashburton with the same determination & confidence.

cheers

David

Round 1, April 25

Kangaroos v Doncaster Rovers at Doncaster

Well ,what a great start to the season on Saturday against Doncaster, 8-1.

Well played to everyone, in particular our new boys in Ali & Ben.  Both showed what a great asset you will be to an already good team.

Ali's skill and passing was terrific with Ben being as safe as houses in goal. His throw outs will cause all sorts of damage to the opposition this year.

The way you all went in for the ball was what we have been working on for the last few seasons. In particular some nice passing of the ball rather than just big kicks.

Our defence was outstanding with Hayden, Liam & Connor all doing their job.  Congratulations to Airik once again for terrorising the opposition goalkeeper with 6 goals.

Our "Player of the Match" this week was Connor Jackson who controlled the defence with such maturity with nothing getting passed him.  Well played Connor.

See you all at training.
