2008 U9 Rooball News v Boronia (Round 18, August 30)
Well what a fantastic way to finish off such a tremendous season. Beating Boronia 5-0 after losing narrowly to them 3-2 earlier in the year was sweet revenge. I asked each player before the game to win every ball, chase, tackle, hassle and do their very best. Well they surpassed any expectations by absolutely dominating them. Mitchell Bell played his heart out and put in his best game for the season. The first goal by Mitchell showed his confidence to run at the opposition to place the ball neatly into the corner. The next four goals, well . . . they were something special from a very special player. Airik hit the ball so hard at the goal that they would have gone in against any opposition. Airik has had an exceptional season scoring..46 goals! Unbelievable for a nine year old. Once again I do stipulate that it is a team game and if it wasn't for all the other players working so hard we would not have scored so many. This season was quite amazing for me to watch and really enjoy all players improving and maturing with the way they play the game. For the record our season stats are: Played 18, Won 16, Drew 0, Lost 2, Goals for 142 Goal Against 12. Scorers: Well done Boys, hope you will all return next season for another fun year. Don't forget Presentation Day 13th Sept 10am. Cheers David v Boroondara (Round 17, August 16)
Goals went to Rory(4) Airik(3) Nathan(3) Hayden(3) & Mitchell (1) including our very first headed goal by Hayden direct from a corner. From the start the boys pushed and passed the ball around brilliantly which is rarely seen at this level. They are gradually learning that passing the ball gets you there a lot easier than trying to run with it each time. We had countless corners which were delivered into the area beautifully resulting in many goals. I apologise to Declan (who volunteered to go in goal for the entire match) because unfortunately he couldn't get a touch. The "Player of the match" went to Nathan again as he is playing the right midfield role exactly as instructed. Keep going Nathan. An encouragement award went to Lachlan Griffith this week as he tried all game to score but with no luck. Keep trying Lachie. This weeks game v Boronia will be a difficult one but if we play the way we did this week it should be a great contest. Cheers David v Riversdale (Round 16, August 9)
After just beating them 4-3 in the first game they were obviously determined to make amends. The first half saw a very close even game with both sides not really threatening the goals in any way. Every time Airik got the ball he had to contend with three opposition players putting him under pressure. We tried hard to get the lead a few times but their Goalkeeper had very safe hands. All the boys battled hard into the second half until a lapse of concentration saw them score a nicely taken goal. Connor, Liam, Patrick and Rory were kept busy defending and doing a great job.
They eventually won 4-0 but this is not to say we played badly, just that it wasn't our day. This is another good lesson to learn that you can't always win and eventually, no matter how well you are playing you will lose.
David v Brighton 2 (Round 15, August 2)
As the season closes more of the opposition teams are improving and therefore making our boys work even harder to ensure a victory. Everyone played outstanding and we could have had many more goals as many opportunities went by. The first half was dominated by some great moves which resulted in a 2-1 lead. The second half we were nearly camped in their half for the period which resulted in another five goals and many off the line or saved. Mitchell Bell once more gave a great display in goals in the second half with one spectacular save and a stop with the opposition being one on one. As in many other games Hayden came out of goals for the second half and redeemed an earlier goal against us by scoring his first hat trick! Airik once again did his job by also scoring a hat-trick. Cameron rounded off the total with adding his 12th goal of the season. Final score 7-2 to Ringwood. The game was very rough in parts but the boys put in as hard as they got. Tackles by Nathan, Liam, Jack, Declan, Patrick & Lachlan made such a difference to lead to more attacks. Our "Player of the Match" was Connor Jackson who was as solid as a rock at the back not letting anyone passed him. Well done Connor. Rory once again worked very hard to defend and create chances in attack. David Hard fought win against Glen Waverley (Round 14, July 26)
With the game being Eleven V Eleven probably didn't help our game but gave all the boys a full game It became very crowded in their goal area and with an exceptional goalkeeper Glen Waverley held on to only concede one goal. An excellent move from Airik saw him cross the ball to Nathan who took his opportunity with great skill in hitting it first time into the corner of the net. As the game wore on the opposition were very good at spoiling every attack we made. Chance after chance saw their Goalie save some great shots. A one on one with the keeper by Cameron saw another great stop. As corner after corner went in nothing got passed him. One great opportunity from Rory saw him chest it down and volley a shot into the top corner only to see the keeper once again somehow hit it over the bar. A very good game to watch and gave the boys more of an understanding that not every game will be as easy as most this season have been. The "Player of the Match" this week was Nathan Callinan for his great goal and tireless determination up and down the right hand flank. Great game Nathan. David U9s crack the ton! (Round 13, July 19)
Congratulations to you all for achieving the 100th goal which was celebrated in great style! Boronia must have thought we were crazy. After such a great season so far it was only fitting that Airik put away THE goal. I could not ask for more from all the boys and with the effort and persistence that was being applied resulting in goals galore. One highlight amongst many was Liam Mounsey's shot from the half-way line taking their goalkeeper by surprise which was put away by Cameron. Patrick was pushed forward along with Connor to try to score their first goals for the season. Along with Laclan & Declan who are mainly the strength in our back line so scoring goals is a rarity for them. Patrick tried so hard but with no luck this match whereas Connor Jackson scored his first goal this year. Well done Connor. Congratulations to all the goal-scorers in tallying 115 so far. This weeks "Player of the match" went to Patrick Corbett for his terrific tackling and never say die attitude towards getting the ball. Well done Pat. David Pleasing win against Bulleen (Round 12, July 12)
Congratulations to the scorers Rory (2) Cameron (2) and Nathan (1). This is the first game all season that Airik did not find the net, however he assisted in some great moves to set up a couple of goals. The defence played very solidly this week with the return of Connor from his sunny holiday. Some great tackles are being put in by Lachie, Declan and Patrick to help us regain possession and create numerous attacks. The "Player of the Match" this week went to Liam Mounsey who I have never seen him win so many tackles. Liam has grown in confidence since joining us last year and has become a solid and reliable player wherever he plays. Keep it up Liam. I am very pleased with both our Goalies Hayden & Mitchell, who both give the team so much confidence when they both clear the ball so well to create another attack. The team is now on 99 goals for the season (in 12 games). Well done boys, lets see a great united celebration after you score the 100th. David Another convincing win against Brighton 1 (Round 11, July 5)
All the boys were ready to play on Saturday and took complete control early with a few quick goals. We were taking great corners and Airik nearly scored his first headed goal this season. From a corner Nathan hit a beauty into the corner of the net for the first of his four goals. Airik once again netted four with more goals to Rory, Cameron and Hayden with one own goal. Hayden once again scoring after coming out of goals. As the game wore on Brighton had very little possession and were becoming very frustrated. Liam Mounsey and Lachlan Griffith both defended brilliantly and when called upon played simple passes to a team mate and away from danger we went. Through the midfield some great passes were made which lead to some great individual goals. This week's game will be much harder against Bulleen so early to bed Friday night!! David Back to winning ways against Ashburton (Round 10, June 28)
After last weeks loss the boys were back to their winning ways with an emphatic 14-0 victory. Congratulations to the goal scorers Airik(4), Rory(7), Hayden(1), Nathan(1) & his first goal for the team Jack. Jack wasn't sure how to celebrate scoring his goal so the boys just swarmed him! It was a slow start to the game but once the first goal went in it became a procession. It is good to see all the boys improving in various aspects of their games and having more confidence to run at the opposition and take them on. Thanks to Mitchell Bell for going in goal in the second half and he did a great job. Coming out when necessary and saving and kicking really well. Mitchell has been learning from his big brother Liam who is a great Goalie in the Senior ranks. Our "Player of the match" this week goes to our trusty Goalkeeper Hayden Thompson. Hayden has been a great find for us as good goalies are hard to find. Hayden normally comes out onto the field in the second half of our games to have a run and ALWAYS scores!! Well done Hayden!. David Mid season loss (Round 9, June 21)
Despite this all the Boys put in a great effort and the result did not show how well we played. On a small muddy pitch we must have had at least 25 shots to their half a dozen. But for their goalkeeper we could have had plenty. Anyway, it is good for those who have not experienced a loss to realise that you can't possibly always win. Another two goals from Airik kept us in the game and with one hitting the post late on, all made the game exciting to watch. (Apologies to Airik for the tally of goals in last weeks game where he actually scored 2 not 1). Next time round we will be prepared to match a good Boronia team. This weeks "Player of the Match" goes to Nathan Callinan who played his heart out on Saturday in both defending and creating some attacks. He did what was asked of him and more. A huge thank-you to Ian Griffiths, our Team Manager, who most generously shouted the boys McDonalds after the game as a reward for such a sensational first half of the season... Played 9, Won 8, Lost 1, Draw 0, Goals for 66, Goals against 6. Thank-you Ian from every-one. David v Boroondara (Round 8, June 14)
Another fantastic effort we came away with another goal feast - 10-0. Some great goals were put away so congratulations to the scorers: Rory(6) Airik(1) Nathan(1) Cameron(1) & Hayden, who played his first full game out of goal, (1). A big thank-you to Declan who offered to go in goal, but unfortunately for him the ball didn't get that far the whole game. All the Boys are playing their positions well and thinking about how and when to pass to each other. Well played to Nathan Callinan who is maturing as a player and helping out others when in trouble. Our 'Player of the Match" this week went to Airik Phraphone. Airik came to us from Croydon and has been absolutely sensational. Airik has scored 21 goals in just 8 games! Who knows how many he could end up with at the end of the Season. Well done Airik. Well done Boys David Riversdale toughest opposition yet! (Round 7, June 7) Well,
what
a great game we witnessed this week at Riversdale winning 4-3. Easily our hardest game yet, seeing us also concede our first goals this season. Our Goalie Hayden Thompson had a great game but could not stop three tremendous goals. One in particular was a rocket from a long way out! After all this, we still fought very hard on a sandy cow paddock and due to many good passages of control and passing gave our star striker Airik the chance to put four away. Great job Airik (20 goals in 7 games!). A lot of hard work and effort was put in by all the boys which is what we need to do to keep improving. Games like these help each player develop and learn to help each other out. Having such a good team spirit the Boys showed that under such conditions if they worked hard and were determined, they would not lose. This weeks" Player of the Match" went to Rory who has worked very hard up and down the pitch creating many moves and stopping many attacks. This has resulted in 12 goals in 7 matches for him. Keep up the good work Rory. David Tough game at Brighton (Round 6, May 31)
The first half was very tight and although we created plenty of chances on goal the ball just didn't go in for us. A great run by Cameron on the right saw him slot home his 5th goal of the season. It was 1-0 at half time and the boys knew they were in for a tough match. The second half brought out the best in all the boys by absolutely running all over them and scoring four more goals. Rory (2) Hayden (1) and Airik (1). Airik was also very unlucky after he belted home a great goal from a long way out only to have the final whistle blow just before he kicked it. Rob (our ref for the match) was very apologetic to Airik! Congratulations to Cameron Osbourne this week's "Player of the Match" who, as mentioned, has been very consistent each game in scoring goals and in improving his tremendous dribbling skills. Well done Cameron. Well done Boys - keep up the great effort. David . . and the U9's just keep rolling on! (Round 5, May 24)
Congratulations to Player of the Match Declan Bennett who is improving every game and listening to instructions and carrying them out. The boys tackled, passed & ran very hard throughout the game resulting in some great goals. It is great to see the confidence in players trying new skills such as dragging the ball back when in a crowded situation. Well done to all the goal scorers and to the hero's who have been defending so well that any threat coming through is stopped and cleared. A mention to Liam Mounsey who went in goal for us in the second half. Well done Liam you did very well and some good kick outs. Keep up the good work Boys. David Tattersall 11-0 win against Boronia (Round 4, May 17)
Congratulations to all the scorers with Airik once again getting a bag full (5). 13 so far! On what was a small ground & small goals - the boys were terrific. Congratulations to Patrick (this weeks player of the match) for his great efforts in tackling and passing which is improving each game after his twisted ankle. All the boys are working very hard to help each other to improve and enjoy each match. Cheers Tatts Another win for the U9s! (Round 3, May 10)
Well done to Player of the match Lachlan Griffith, who at one stage took on three Bulleen players and would not give in. The result was Lachlan came away with the ball and away we went towards goal. This type of effort is being shown throughout the team which is all you can ask for. All the new boys are listening and really learning quickly and enjoying being with the team. Another outstanding effort was shown by our Goalkeeper (mini-Schwarzer) Hayden Thompson. He didn't have to make any real hard saves but was very solid and reliable. Next weeks game is against Boronia 2 at H.V. Jones Res (Melway 73 G5). Kick off at 10 am. Please be there at 9.30. See you at training David Two in a row for the U9s! (Round 2, May 3)
Thanks to Jack & Patrick for being involved in the game even though you had an injury. Congratulations to Connor Jackson (this weeks player of the match) who had a fantastic game as the master sweeping defender. Nothing got passed him and relished the role. Well done to all the goal scorers and to Andrew Jackson for keeping a tally on his phone. Michael Mounsey is kicking himself once again for missing Liam score a great goal. This week's game will be a lot different and harder for the boys, but if they put in the effort we saw last week they should do well. See you all at training Wednesday 6pm at Mansons. P.S. We will be at Manson Reserve this Saturday. Kick off 10 am vs Bulleen Lions so be there by at least 9.30 Change in start time for Brighton game For those who didn't get a text message last night we are now playing at 9am. Yes 9am! The FFV changed the times and but for Mel & Rob (Hayden's parents) surfing the FFV web site we woudn't have known! Thanks Guys. Please be there at 8.30. Mel ref 77A2. Hopefully Patrick's ankle will be ok soon so he can get out on the park. A very big thanks to all (Ian,George, Andy, Gavin, Mark, Michael etc) who somehow got the temporary goals out of the lockup at Jubilee. If I leave anyone out forgive me. Thanks to the Seniors President Colin Munro & Ken Stewart for allowing us to take up temporary residence at Jubilee Park till one day it might rain and we can play back at Manson Reserve. Although after such a win we might stay there for a while longer. Many thanks to Michael & Michele for all the running around that you have been doing leading up to our first game. Sorry you had to go home to get the gate key Michele! Also for the lollies that are much appreciated by me & the boys. Looking forward to our next game V Brighton 1 at Dendy Park 10am.
